Roast Blue Heirloom Potatoes

Recently I was given these beautiful blue heirloom potatoes. Yes, they do look purple but they are known as blue potatoes (??!). A delicious natural gluten and grain free ingredient.

Blue potatoes taste slightly nuttier than their regular white cousin and have additional health benefits as they contain anthocyanins, powerful anti oxidants that help prevent the production of free radicals within the body reducing the risk of many cancers, stroke and heart disease.

After a little research I decided to roast my blue potatoes as they caramelize slightly in the roasting process. and make a great side dish.  I’d highly recommend seeking them out when you want a tasty, healthy alternative to sweet or white potatoes.

So here is my simple recipe for healthy roast potatoes, a mini food miracle.


Roast blue potatoes


  • Organic, Blue Heirloom Potatoes
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • A few sprigs of Rosemary and Thyme


Pre-heat oven to gas mark 4, 180c, 450f

  1. Lightly cover potatoes in virgin extra olive oil and sprinkle with rosemary and thyme leaves and season with salt and pepper
  2. Roast in the oven for 20-25 mins and enjoy!

Notes: They will keep well covered in a fridge for up to 3 days.  You won’t necessarily find them in your local supermarket but rather at markets, farmers markets and health food shops.

        Yes, I think I have seen them in England, when I was living there, but I’ve never tried them. You can find a lot of Italian food and wine in the UK….Well, you can find anything you want in the UK, really :-)))
